U.S. Mission Vietnam – U.S. Embassy in Hanoi

POSITION: Fraud Investigator

WORK HOURS: Full-time, 40 hours/week

SALARY: Ordinarily Resident (OR): FSN-7; US$9,628(Starting Salary)

The U.S. Mission in Hanoi, Vietnam is seeking eligible and qualified applicant for the position of Fraud Investigator in its Consular Section.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Incumbent of this position will provide the full range of fraud prevention assistance to the Non-immigrant Visa (NIV), American Citizen Services (ACS), and Adoption units at the Embassy. She/he will research fraud patterns, collect and analyze fraud data, investigate cases of suspected visa fraud, including performing site visits, draft follow up reports, and conduct fraud prevention outreach. In addition, the incumbent will perform all functions associated with processing non-immigrant visas (NIV), including intake, data entry, biometric collection, visa printing, document pass back, and assisting consular officers with interpretation as needed during interviews. She/he will report directly to the Supervisory Consular Assistant and is reviewed by the Non-Immigrant Visa Unit Chief.

 

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific information supporting each item. Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.

1. EDUCATION: College or university studies is required.

2. EXPERIENCE: At least one year of experience in the area of visa work, other related work in the consular field, or similar work involving the application of relatively complex regulatory or legal material is required.

3. LANGUAGE: Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English is required

(this will be tested).

Level 4 (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing Vietnamese is required.

4. SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Must have the ability toexercise initiative, resourcefulness, and judgment. Must be able to recognize, analyze, and complete investigations of ongoing fraud patterns; ability to endure extended periods of travel in moving vehicles. Must have ability to maintain contacts at the working level. Must be able to deal with customers in a professional and courteous manner, and to work under pressure. Must have be able to perform data entry tasks and have basic mechanical skills and mathematical skills. Must have the ability to translate/interpret professionally English to Vietnamese and vice versa. Must have excellent organizational, management and interpersonal skills, the ability to multitask efficiently with a high degree of accuracy in a very demanding work environment and the ability to perform all duties connected with NIV processing. Must have knowledge of Microsoft office and IT software knowledge involving the most common used social media and the internet.

5. JOB KNOWLEDGE: Must have a solid understanding of Vietnamese law as it pertains to marriage, personal property, civil rights and immigration, as well as of the national and provincial education systems.
