ABOUT AUSTRADE
The Australian Trade and Investment Commission (Austrade) contributes to Australia’s economic prosperity by helping Australian businesses, education institutions, tourism operators, governments and citizens as they:
- develop international markets and promote international education;
- win productive foreign direct investment;
- strengthen Australia’s tourism industry; and
- seek consular and passport services.
THE ROLE
This position, located at the Austrade office in Hanoi, plays a key role in supporting the Trade Commissioner to identify, develop and promote trade, investment and international education opportunities for Australian companies in Vietnam.
In this role, you will:
- In accordance with Austrade’s Client Service Policy, identify and capture opportunities to increase Australian exports and outward investment to Vietnam market by providing a wide range of quality and timely services to Australian companies.
- Build and maintain networks with key business contacts, government agencies and other stakeholders in
- Vietnam, and represent Austrade effectively at senior levels of business and government both in Australia and in Vietnam.
- Undertake complex market research and analysis to identify market trends and existing & emerging business opportunities for Australian companies in Vietnam with particular focus on Infrastructure and Services.
- Develop methods for proactively promoting/identifying business opportunities for Australian clients from the Infrastructure and Services sectors. Provide quality market insights and assistance for Australian clients seeking to access the Vietnam market.
- Efficiently manage changing workloads, flexibility in covering a variety of industries, large numbers of clients/customers, within internally and externally driven timeframes.
- Track the ongoing development of the commercial environment in the sectors, and be able to relate this to the needs of Australian exporters.
- Independently organise trade visits, missions and arranging visit programs.
- Actively apply Austrade business practices and maintain accuracy of information in all Austrade
- Business Systems to deliver accurate and timely reporting and effective relationship management.
- Contribute to knowledge creation within Austrade, by adopting information practices, sharing knowledge and information and by embracing best practice and development opportunities.
- Work collaboratively within the Austrade network to contribute to service delivery and achieve desired outcomes, while upholding the Australian Public Service (APS) Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct and Work Health & Safety (WHS) principles.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Given the nature of what we do, we thrive when our teams are made up of people from different backgrounds, cultures, genders, education, training, interests and skills. There are particular aspects we will consider when looking for successful candidate for this role, namely:
1. Minimum 5 years’ marketing, promotional or business development experience. Industry knowledge/experience in Infrastructure and Services (especially Health, ICT and Financial Services) would be an advantage.
2. Demonstrated good understanding of the capabilities and operating environment of the Australian international business including Infrastructure and Services as well as other related sector.
3. Demonstrated track record of achieving results in a commercial environment and the ability to apply this successfully to trade/investment facilitation.
4. High level representation and communication skills (including interpersonal, negotiation and business writing skills) and with particular ability to articulate concepts/ideas and represent Australia and Austrade in a professional approach to a broad range of audience.
5. Proven ability to learn quickly, work under pressure, and to manage conflicting work priorities and deadlines independently with limited supervision.
6. Proven ability to work as part of a team across different industry teams and multiple locations in a performance driven culture.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to apply, you must have:
- Bachelor degree in international business, marketing or related discipline;
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience marketing, promotional or business development experience;
- Fluency in both written and spoken English and Vietnam language; and
- The right to live and legally work in Vietnam currently.
DESIRABLE
- Experience in working either within the Australian government agencies or multinational organisations.
- In particular, industry knowledge of / experience in Infrastructure and Services sectors would be highly regarded.

- This is a locally-engaged position governed by Vietnam labour law and Austrade’s Overseas Engaged
- Employees Terms and Conditions of Employment Vietnam.
- Commencement salary of USD23, 649 per annum will be offered for this position. Salary adjustment to USD 27, 822 per annum (gross) may be approved after six months’ probation subject to successful probation assessment.
- An offer of employment is subject to Austrade’s pre-employment screening including security assessment. Applicants must consent to Austrade’s pre-employment background checking process to a level appropriate to the access required to fulfil the obligations of this position.
